There’s no cutoff age for orthodontic treatment. Teeth can move at any life stage, provided the surrounding bone and gum tissue are healthy — which makes “I’m probably too old for this” one of the most common misconceptions we correct in consultations at our Falcon office. What’s changed isn’t whether adult treatment works; it’s that adults now have options that fit far more easily into professional and social life than metal braces did a generation ago.
Why so many adults choose Invisalign specifically:
What’s genuinely different about adult treatment compared to teenagers: adult bone remodels more slowly, so comparable tooth movement can take somewhat longer. Adults are also more likely to bring prior dental work into the plan — crowns, bridges, missing teeth, or gum recession — all of which need to factor into treatment planning. And because adult jaws have finished growing, some cases that would be handled with growth guidance in a child, like a narrow palate, may call for MARPE or MSE alongside aligners instead of aligners alone.
None of that makes adult treatment harder, just more individualized — which is exactly why a real consultation and 3D scan matter more than assuming based on adolescent orthodontics or someone else’s experience.
Dr. Zitterkopf treats adults across the full range of complexity at our Falcon office, from simple cosmetic alignment to cases involving expansion, bite correction, or relapse from earlier treatment. If you’ve delayed straightening your teeth because you assumed it was too late, it isn’t. Schedule a consultation and see what your actual options look like.
